Type-316 Hinges

All of our hinges are cast from Type-316, (T-316), marine grade stainless* steel. We always use Type-316 over the less expensive Type-304 due to its greater resistance to pitting corrosion. While the steel is not completely rustproof this alloy is more resistant than household stainless steel. Type-316 stainless steel can be used as well when non-magnetic metal is needed.

* Marine grade stainless, or SAE 316 stainless steel is the preferred austenite stainless steel, for use in marine environments. Type-316 contains both nickel and chromium metals.
